TCC Hawaii sponsors and coordinates the annual TCC Worldwide Online Conference and supports other global professional development opportunities for educators in K-12 and higher education. TCCHawaii.org, a Hawaii non-profit organization, in partnership with LearningTimes.org in New York sponsors the TCC Worldwide Online Conference and other professional development activities such as the League for
Innovation Innovator Spotlight online event. We are thankful for the perseverance and tireless effort of many volunteer colleagues, including our Advisory Panel and Editorial Board, for their help and thoughtfulness in producing this annual event. This event is designed for faculty, staff and administrators in higher education worldwide to share their expertise and engage in productive forums about innovations and practices that accompany the use of technology in teaching and learning. In 1996, Dr. James Shimabukuro, Language Arts Professor at Kapi’olani Community College in Honolulu, Hawai’i, founded this conference. Professor Shimabukuro envisioned creating a global network for faculty to share expertise, research results and teaching experiences with one other. Professor Shimabukuro named this virtual conference; “Teaching in the Community Colleges,” after his email discussion list TCC-L. In August 2004, the TCC conference was renamed the TCC Worldwide Online Conference. Following a lengthy discussion with advisory panel members and TCC 2004 participants, TCC now represents Technology, Colleges and Community. In 2010, TCC transitioned into a self-supporting, educational non-profit organization, TCCHawaii.org, with this annual online conference as its primary purpose. TCC staff will plan and produce additional activities during the year for conference registrants to promote professional development in using instructional technology for teaching, learning, research, and creativity. In November, 2013, TCCHawaii.org was approved by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization. The annual TCC conference runs on a real-time schedule, with a starting date and a closing date. It includes live presentations that begin and end at a given times. The conference theme changes annually in order to focus on and dialog current and controversial issues about using technology for teaching and learning.
