Explore the resilience and cultural reclamation of Uchinaanchu (Okinawan) identity across Okinawa, Brazil, and Hawaiʻi ✨ As a department that offers two Uchinaaguchi (Okinawan language) courses, we’d like to share with you an exciting presentation related to Uchinaa (Okinawa) happening on January 6, 2025! ALL STUDENTS WELCOME! NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! Looking for a fun class to take in Spring 2025? 🌸✨ Look no further! Darin Miyashiro-sensei will be offering koto (琴) courses MUS 127B and MUS 311C, and gagaku (雅楽) course MUS 311 I in Spring 2025! 🎶

Koto (琴) is a is a traditional Japanese 13-stringed musical instrument that resembles a long, flat wooden zither. Gagaku (雅楽) is the oldest form of classical music in Japan, traditionally performed at the imperial court and in important Shinto shrines.

On September 26-27, EALL hosted “Thus Spoke: Kim Hyesoon, Fi Jae Lee, Jack Jung,” the inaugural iteration for the Hee Kyung Lee Kwon Speaker Series that spotlights significant voices in Korean women’s literature. The event included a bilingual poetry reading, art talk, question and answer session, book signing, as well as a translation workshop. Applications for the 77th Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) are NOW OPEN! 🇯🇵🇺🇸

JASC is a unique student-led exchange program founded in 1934, bringing together U.S. and Japanese university students to explore and strengthen the bonds between our two cultures. This year, JASC77 will be hosted in Japan, and participants will visit Osaka, Kyoto, Kumamoto, and Tokyo! 🗼🌸

🗓️ When: July 31 - August 21, 2025
👥 Who: 36 U.S. and 36 Japanese undergrad and grad students who are 18 years old or older at the start of the conference
