Burglary at McCarthy Mall construction site

On Friday, November 21 a burglary was reported at the McCarthy Mall construction site. The incident took place between 5:00pm yesterday, November 20 and 5:00am today November 21.

An unknown suspect(s) gained access to two fenced construction job sites by cutting the chains on the gates fronting Edmondson Hall on McCarthy Mall. Suspect(s) removed multiple tools and equipment from toolboxes and additional items were taken from a conference room within the site.

Additionally, DPS received a report of suspicious activity involving two male individuals leaving the area, one on a bicycle and one on a moped, after appearing to attempt to gain access to the surfboard/bicycle rack at Hale Haukani. The individuals left the area before DPS arrived.

While it is not yet known if this suspicious activity is related to the burglary at the construction site, DPS is sharing this information so the community can remain alert and report any helpful information.

DPS and the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) are actively investigating these incidents.

DPS recommends:

If multiple people have access to a storage room or office, ensure that everyone follows the same protocols for keeping the area secure.

Keep an inventory of items in the storage unit and be sure to update the list each time something is removed or replaced. Keep serial numbers of any higher-priced items or equipment, to ensure that property can be returned to you if recovered.

If you believe that your office or apartment has been entered, it is important for your safety that you do not enter the area. Immediately call DPS at (808) 956-6911 or HPD at 911.

Contact us if you observe suspicious people, vehicles, or activity on campus. While the term “suspicious” may mean different things to different people, we urge our community to contact us even if they aren’t sure whether or not something seems out of place. If you see something, say something by immediately calling DPS at (808) 956-6911 or HPD at 911 so an officer can respond to check the location.

S*xual Assault Incident at UH Mānoa Student Housing

A sexual assault was reported at UH Mānoa today, Wednesday October 29, 2025. The incident occurred on Monday, October 27, 2025. In this incident, a resident stated they were forcibly sexually assaulted by an acquaintance who is not a University student. The resident had invited the suspect to her residence hall room where the assault took place.

The suspect’s whereabouts are unknown but he may still be staying in the residence halls with other students.

If you have any information about this incident, please contact the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Department of Public Safety. As a reminder, student housing rules provide that unauthorized individual(s) are not permitted to be in student housing facilities unless they are es**rted by a student resident.

Responsibility is with the perpetrator, not the victim - no one deserves, asks for or provokes unwanted touching, physical or sexual assault.
Safety Tips to Consider:

E mālama i kekahi i kekahi – Take care of others and your friends. If you sense a friend may need your help, or may be getting into a risky situation, offer them your support. For example, offer to go on a fun double-date in public with a friend who may be meeting someone for the first time.

If you or someone you know is the victim of a sexual assault, get to a safe place. Preserve any physical evidence of the assault. If possible, avoid showering or brushing your teeth, and save all of the clothing you were wearing at the time or linens that were used. Place all garments in a paper (not plastic) bag. Write down as much as you can remember about the circumstances of the assault, including a description of the perpetrator.
Reporting Options & Resources

Resources listed below are available to sexual assault survivors regardless of whether or not they decide to report the incident to police. Airsoft projectile incident at UH Mānoa

On October 16, 2025 at approximately 8:23 p.m., a vehicle drove past a student and shot at them with an airsoft-type gun on Maile Way. Airsoft guns fire small, plastic pellets that can cause injury.

The student heard the sound of airsoft bursts and was struck twice on the left side of his neck. The student noticed two males laughing inside the vehicle and that the airsoft-type gun was pointed towards his head. After the incident, the truck fled towards University Avenue. The Honolulu Police Department was contacted by the reporting party. The vehicle is described as a dark-colored truck with roll bars.

While these types of airsoft pellets may not be lethal, they can cause serious harm. If you know anything about this assault incident or any other similar incident, please notify the UH Mānoa Department of Public Safety (DPS) at (808) 956-6911 or the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) at 911 if you have any information regarding any similar incident or if you observe suspicious people, vehicles, or activity on campus.

Safety Tips to Consider:

E makaʻala – Be alert. Practice being aware and alert of your surroundings and remember that we cannot control everything around us. Every situation may be different, but being aware of warning signs can give you a head start. Avoid distractions such as looking down at your phone while walking.

If you feel that you or others are in danger, or to report suspicious, illegal, or unusual activity on campus, call DPS at (808) 956-6911 or HPD at 911. You can also contact DPS through the Mānoa Guardian app or by using a blue light Emergency Call Box on campus.
