Members of HPU’s Alpha Chi Honor Society, Hawaii Beta Chapter, presented their scholarship at the Alpha Chi National Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from March 30 to April 1, 2023. HPU biochemistry major Elizabeth Milner (Class of 2024) won the Joseph E. Bessie Mae Pryor prize in Chemistry for her presentation titled, “Identifying Potential Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Compounds from Hawaiian Marine Natural Product Extracts.” Read more about our other presenters, Blaise Babineck, Marquesa Calderon, and Alpha Chi Sponsor, Yongli Chen.

At this time we will be selecting our delegates for the upcoming Alpha Chi National Convention in Albuquerque, NM AND our chapters nominees for the Alpha Chj national scholarships and fellows. Congratulations to Alpha Chi Hawaii Beta member Cidney Hopkins (Bachelor of Arts in International Studies '22) who represented the undergraduates of the Spring Class of 2022 at the Saturday, May 7, afternoon graduation ceremony as the valedictory speaker. Cidney took on several leadership roles in the Student Government Association and was named Senator of the Year before taking on the role of Student Body President. In 2021, she was chosen as an alternate for the Alpha Chi Nolle Scholarship for her paper, “The Factor of Time in Peace Agreement Success”—a paper she wrote in Dr. Andrea Malji’s Fundamentals of Social Science Research class (PSCI 2100).
