NHSEMP UH-Mānoa

NHSEMP UH-Mānoa We provide assistance, opportunities, and community for students to excel in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The Native Hawaiian Science & Engineering Mentorship Program (NHSEMP) began in 2001 as a joint initiative between the University of Hawaii at Manoa - College of Engineering and Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies. NHSEMP started with a cohort of 14 freshmen engineering students. Since then, the program has grown to become a national model for science and engineering higher education bridgi

ng educational institutions, government agencies, and private industry. NHSEMP has expanded to include students majoring in applied science fields as well as engineering. As of the Fall 2012 semester, there are over 140 science and engineering students in NHSEMP, ranging from freshmen undergraduate students to PhD candidates. Students are majoring in various fields such as Biology, Botany, Engineering (Civil and Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical), Natural Resources & Environmental Management, Mathematics, Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering, and Zoology. We celebrated our first graduating class in May 2007. Our graduates have since moved into their respective fields, working for reputable companies across Hawaii and in California, Oregon, and Washington State. We look forward to the continued success of all our students!
