Welcome to the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science page.

As our human population continues to increase, forests and other natural resources are valued more for the serenity they provide, the organisms they support, and the products they produce. The faculty and staff of the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science are committed to educating students to create the future in the fields of forestry, forest ecology and management, applied ecology and environmental sciences, wildlife ecology and management, and molecular genetics and biotechnology. All of our degree programs heavily emphasize field and lab techniques, geographic information systems, and, computer and quantitative skills. We excel at bringing all our students together to work as a team in our complex natural world to answer the needs of society.

Not surprised, but proud and grateful for the way CFRES students care for each other and their community.

"[...] the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science (CFRES) raised the most for the [Sock it to Hunger] fundraiser." -- The Lode, Michigan Tech's Student Newspaper

Thanks to the writers and editors over at The Lode and to Undergraduate Student Government for recognizing our students' generosity, and to all of those who contributed to the fundraiser.

In this special guest blog, Tara Bal, associate professor in the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science and president of the Society of American Foresters (SAF), shares insights from SAF’s ForestNext50 Leadership Summit.

“ForestsNext50 was an opportunity to take previous conversations in forestry a step further by moving from talking about the future to making plans to build it.” – Tara Bal, SAF president

“My great hope is that years from now, we will look back on this moment as a time when something truly impactful began, and the results, including healthier forests and a thriving renewable forest sector, will be the evidence of our collective success.” – David Flaspohler, CFRES dean
