In remembrance of the tragedy that occurred on Sept. 11, the University of Houston-Downtown will host several events on and off campus. We invite all members of the UHD community to join us.

Friday, Sept. 11:

Moment of Silence
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: South Deck

Film Screening
W.I. D***s Library invites you to a film screening of the documentary “7 Days in September,” a 2002 film by Steven Rosenbaum that captures the immediate impact of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks through the eyes of ordinary Americans in New York City. Lunch will be served. Follow the link to RSVP now.

GatorServe
The UHD community will join other volunteers through JustServe to clean and sweep the grounds of Houston National Cemetery. The event will begin with a special ceremony in remembrance of Sept. 11.

This summer, students in INT 3350 Application of Artificial Intelligence embarked on a two-week study experience in London and Paris, accompanied by Finance, Information Systems, Economics, and Risk Management Assistant Professor Ray Aria and Associate Professor Dr. Shohreh Hashemi. One of the highlights of the course was attending the Ai Summit London.

"I realized how efficient and important critical thinking and leadership really are, and I was able to apply both throughout my internships this summer," said MIS major Adriana Guzman."The higher you move up, the more those skills carry weight."

Thank you to the organizations who attended UHDPD's annual Safety Conference! Attendees enjoyed engaging presentations on situational awareness and online safety, hands-on activities, a fun raffle, and meeting representatives from the organizations that keep our city safe.

One of the best parts? We reconnected with a proud UHD Criminal Justice alum, Jaqueline Hinojosa! Hinojosa, representing the Harris County District Attorney's Office , is one of the many alums doing great things in our community.

Whether you are on or off campus, it's important to know what to do when the unexpected happens. Be prepared and stay safe by attending one or all of the following events!

Join us at the annual Safety Conference hosted by UHDPD from 10 a.m. to Noon, Wednesday, Sept. 2, in A300 and the third-floor mural area. Enjoy interactive presentations, expert-led demonstrations, and an opportunity to meet community partners who help keep our city safe.

Next, register for a six-part self-defense series led by UHDPD Lieutenant Trinity Delafance. Learn to break free from common holds, de-escalate threatening situations, and more during the beginner-friendly courses.
