Houston Metropolitan Area Chapters HMAC - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority The Houston Metropolitan Area Chapters (HMAC) was officially organized in 1995 under the direction of the 20th Regional Director, Dr. Polly Sparks Turner.

It is comprised of Alpha Kappa Alpha chapters in the greater Houston and surrounding areas.

On this day 112 years ago, the First International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Nellie M.!Quander stood on business for another First.

Quander led the charge to make Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the First sorority in United States to be incorporated! As the lead incorporator, her vision secured our legacy, protection, and perpetuity, ensuring that AKA would thrive for generations to come.

Because of her bold leadership, we continue leading, serving, and setting the standard—117 years strong and counting!

Incorporation was, and always will be, a Serious Matter.

Happy 117th Founders’ Day, Sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®!

On this day, January 15th, 1908, nine visionary women at Howard University sparked a sisterhood that has grown into a global force for good.

From that first meeting in Miner Hall to today, we proudly stand as a sisterhood of over 360,000 members across 12 nations, including the U.S., Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, UAE, Germany, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Korea, South Africa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

As we celebrate under the 2022-2026 Administration, and the theme ‘Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood,’ we honor the enduring legacy of our Founders, and continue to impact communities globally.

As we countdown to our 117th Founders’ Day, we wanted to share a flashback of our 115th Founders’ Day in 2023, when hundreds of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Sisters celebrated in Washington D.C.
