program known worldwide for excellence. Located in the city of Houston, where more than 750 foreign firms are represented and home to the nation's largest number of foreign trade offices. Two of our programs are consistently ranked in the nation's Top 10 by U.S. News & World Report. The LL.M. degree is a mark of academic achievement that will distinguish those individuals as a highly skilled pract

itioner in an area of specialization. The UH Law Center offers six distinct programs:

Health Law: The Health Law & Policy Institute, now in its 32nd year, guides the top-ranked LL.M. health law program. Its emphasis on interdisciplinary studies in all areas of health law and policy benefits from ready access to the nearby Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical complex. Intellectual Property & Information Law: The Law Center's top-rated IPIL program, which holds an international reputation for excellence and is recognized as one of the Top 10 programs in the United States, has been in the forefront of these rapidly evolving disciplines as they have emerged as a mainstay of the global economy. Students may study traditional areas of intellectual property - patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets - as well as ever-changing information law - Internet, software, electronic commerce and databases. Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Law: Houston, as the energy capital of the world - is a perfect setting in which to pursue an LL.M. in Energy, Environment & Natural Resources law. Lawyers are trained to handle the complex legal and policy issues that surround three areas: energy production, transportation and use; pollution prevention and biodiversity protection; and natural resources exploitation and conservation. Tax Law: The Law Center's LL.M. program in Tax Law provides lawyers with the enhanced practical skills they need to meet the challenge of integrating constantly changing tax laws into their practice. The program emphasizes professional responsibility and a thorough understanding of the tax system and how it affects individual, commercial and financial affairs. International Law: The Law Center's LL.M. program in International Law capitalizes on the city's substantial global connections. Students gain an in-depth understanding of international and comparative law and the program allows concentrations in both public and private aspects of international law. Foreign Scholars: With a world wide reputation for excellence, our Foreign Scholars LL.M. program attracts lawyers from every corner of the globe. The Law Center offers one of the largest course selections in the United States. A key feature of our program is the opportunity to attend classes and collaborate with American J.D. and LL.M. students with a diverse range of backgrounds and interests. Foreign Scholar students also have the option of earning a certificate of specialization in Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law; Health Law; International Law; Intellectual Property & Information Law; or Tax Law.

An accomplished attorney and philanthropist, the late John M. O’Quinn was a UH Law Center alumnus and one of the University’s most enthusiastic supporters. The Foundation bearing his name has donated more than $16 million to the UH Law Center, a major portion of which now supports the naming of the law building. I express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Foundation for helping us achieve our current fundraising milestone of $90 million. The new facility will be named the John M. O’Quinn Law Building. The name of the law school will remain the University of Houston Law Center.
