Pictured above, Alex Nuyda models her self-made art piece commenting on the “toxic processes within the fast fashion industry that pollute and intoxicate the natural world, explore susceptible international workers... and embolden the industry to continue its vicious cycle”.

Regarding her piece, Alex says, “The media object I created for my final project sought to engage with environmental and civil rights imagery and diction to highlight toxic processes within the fast fashion industry that pollute and intoxicate the natural world, explore susceptible international workers—notably, women and children, and embolden the industry to continue its vicious cycle. The media object I created is a multifaceted and multi medium art piece: it features multiple original and digitally-created collages of images and quotes pertaining to the civil and environmental impact of fast fashion, which are then imprinted onto a canvas of denim jeans. Jeans were chosen as the medium for the artwork and reworked to mimic popular and historical trends of denim customization. The denim is then showcased in a series/gallery of photographs, staged and modeled to mimic “greenwashing” marketing by corporate entities—specifically those within the fashion industry. Overall, the media object brings forth the harmful civic and environmental impact that fast fashion incites on our world—an essence to which many turn a blind eye—through a medium relevant to popular culture and one through which the message is not expected to be portrayed.” link in bio for alex’s project!
