What role does a river play in shaping a story and a life? Dean Rob Bruce, Ph.D., recently visited William Monroe, Ph.D.’s Master of Interdisciplinary Studies class, "A River Runs Through It: Lives, Stories and Creative Work." Bruce shared his expertise on 19th-and 20th-century American literature and political satire in a lecture titled "Samuel Clemens, Mark Twain and the Mississippi River Merge into One: The Role of the River in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Together, the class explored the powerful symbolism of rivers in literature, personal stories and creative work.
