Mary brings experience in online learning, Career and Technical Education, and instructional technology, with previous roles at Edmentum and Brevard Public Schools. She earned her Master of Education in Learning Design and Technology from Wayne State University and her Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Michigan University.

Outside of work, Mary enjoys tennis, bowling, farmers’ markets, musicals, and spending time with family and pets.

Fun fact: her 3-year-old Australian Shepherd knows more than 30 tricks! 🐶

Thank you to John Lundin, President & CEO of Chem-Trend, for delivering such a rousing, relatable, and inspiring commencement address to Cleary University’s Class of 2026.

As a proud Cleary alumnus himself, John shared a powerful reminder that success is built not just on education, but on curiosity, humility, grit, and the courage to keep learning.

“You should be proud, be very proud that you're a college graduate today. But remember, your secret sauce is not necessarily a diploma. It's your grit and your curiosity and your humility. If you keep those close, you can be unstoppable.”

From stories of career risks and hard-earned lessons to his encouragement to “be a lighthouse for somebody else,” John’s message resonated deeply with our graduates and their families.

Since joining Cleary in 2011, Professor McKinley has inspired more than 1,300 students across 26 unique courses, challenging them to think critically, communicate effectively, and lead with integrity.

From business and technology to philosophy and AI integration, his classes encourage students to see issues from multiple perspectives and prepare them for success in a rapidly changing world.
