It's high time we gave y'all an update on our mural project.

Here are some behind the scenes pics! Nichole Westfall and our incredible community has been hard at work over the last few months prepping, priming, and painting huge sheets of polytab that have been glued to equally huge sheets of aluminum. Right now, they look like big slabs of color all over the warehouse, but they will soon be put together like an enormous puzzle to cover the side of Smith Music Hall!

To make a long story short: the mural looks great already and we're all making friends along the way.

Just because school's out, doesn't mean the Visual Arts Center is empty!

Brian Michael Reed's Elemental Trance opens in the Birke Art Gallery on May 18 and will be on view until we close the reception on June 19, which just happens to be the first Downtown Art Walk of the season 🤔

Professor Sandra Reed (right) invites SOAD students to join her at the 2026 SECAC conference in Winston-Salem, NC this fall! Registration opens on August 1, 2026.

The 2026 SECAC conference theme is Interwoven: Threads, Patterns & Disruptions. SECAC says, "Known as the “Southern City of the Arts,” Winston-Salem has long woven together threads of tradition and transformation from its Moravian beginnings to its industrial rise in textiles and to***co, and now into its second life as a hub for innovation and the arts.” https://secacart.org/page/WinstonSalem2026

If you have any questions about SECAC, reach out to Professor Reed at [email protected].
