🖍️ We’re back with the 3rd Annual Chalk & Walk! 🎨

We’re looking for artists to help us transform Downtown Huntington into a colorful pavement gallery while supporting a great cause! 🧡

📆 Friday, September 18, 2026
⏰ Chalk Time: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
🗳️ Public Voting: 5 – 8 p.m. during Downtown Huntington Art Walk
📍 Pullman Square

This year, we’re excited to partner with Harmony House! The funds raised through public voting will be donated directly to Harmony House to support the important work they do in our community.

Artists and participating groups will create their own 5’ x 5’ sidewalk chalk mural based on this year’s theme. All styles and skill levels are welcome! Artwork must be family-friendly, and all materials used must be temporary.

🖍️ Chalk and other basic materials will be provided, but artists are welcome to bring their favorite tools, techniques, and anything else they need to make their vision come to life!

It is that time of year where our friends at the Huntington Museum of Art hold their annual t-shirt design contest. Last year, Art Walk alum, Marlee Kaiser won, and this year it might be you!

Let your creativity take flight! The Huntington Museum of Art is thrilled to announce the 3rd Annual T-Shirt Design Competition, inviting artists of all ages to capture the theme: “Fly Me to the Museum”.

Since we opened in 1952, the Huntington Museum of Art has strived to provide a space for the community to observe birds in their natural habitat while leaving them undisturbed. This year, we celebrate that commitment by challenging our participants not just to get out and explore our fifty-two acres of land on over two miles of hiking trails, but to also keep a keen eye out for our feathered friends that call the property home!

Whether you’re a young artist or an experienced designer, this is your chance to have your artwork featured official HMA merchandise, make a lasting impact on our community, and help us honor HMA history. With amazing prizes such as $500 cash and a free Museum membership, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss! Grab your binoculars, we’ll see you on the trails!

You can find the official entry form and check out the full set of details and rules at https://hmoa.org/t-shirt-design-contest/.

The photo from the 1950 HMA archives shows the late Dorothy Polan, dedicated supporter of the Huntington Museum of Art, speaking to a group of children about a taxidermied blue jay as part of a nature study session. Even before the creation of the Huntington Galleries in 1952, the Huntington chapter of the American Association of University Women created “The Fun School” to supplement education from the public school system, giving children additional opportunities to expand their knowledge in the areas of art, music, history, and even nature. The volunteers from the Huntington AAUW, like Mrs. Polan, were influential in pushing for the creation of a permanent facility to house their program. By merging with the new Galleries effort, they found their home. Today, HMA is proud to serve the public in the areas of art, education, and nature—a reminder of the lasting foundation built by the ladies of the AAUW.
