Few historical monographs have been as influential as David Blight’s Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory, published by Harvard University Press in 2001. The book received the Bancroft Prize, Lincoln Prize, and the Frederick Douglass Prize, as well as four awards from the Organization of American Historians. It remains on many course lists today. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Blight, Sterling Professor of History at Yale, to reflect on his book's twentieth anniversary. He will be joined in conversation by his former graduate student and our departmental chair, Dr. Brian Jordan.
Dr. Blight has authored a number of other influential and important works, including, most recently, Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom (2018), which, in addition to the Lincoln and Bancroft Prizes, won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for History and the Francis Parkman Prize of the Society of American Historians.
The event will take place over zoom on Wednesday, October 13, at 4:00pm. Please register at this link: https://shsu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_seKDTJkPSxiU5LYu3t_v8w
