Jr. Bearkats of Sam Houston State University

Jr. Bearkats of Sam Houston State University Jr. Bearkats is an interactive program for children 1-13 years old designed to engage the next generation of Bearkats!

Bearkats is a program created especially for youth ages 2 to 13 to interact with Sam Houston State University (SHSU), involving the youth in a number of activities online and on the SHSU campus. Our unique program offers activities that includes but is not limited to; attending parades, riding on floats, tailgating with our FCS Division I National Champion Bearkat Football Team, running bases with

our Lady Kats Softball Team, acting as the official Bat Boy for our Men’s Baseball Team, a towel program that allows our younger members to feel involved with the SHSU Basketball Teams, coloring contest, and writing contests. Junior Bearkats receive an official, personalized Junior Bearkats membership card, as well as a quarterly newsletter to keep them involved in activities and informed about SHSU. Jr. Bearkats and families are invited to join us on campus at the Newton Gresham Library for a come-and-go event this Saturday, April 5th, from 10:30am – 12:00pm.

You'll get to meet with students from the College of Education who will show you some of their favorite books to help fill out your summer reading list. You can also explore the library and all it has to offer for our community members.

You'll can even meet with our special guest...SAMMY BEARKAT! Bring your favorite book to show Sammy so he can fill up his summer reading list!
