Our Pathways series returns with Vice President Tim Smith sitting down with Machine Tool Technology student Josh Hicks, who is from Clarkrange. Josh is not a talker; he is more of a "doer." But he's an exemplary student, and a member of our Student Government. He talks about the Machine Tool program and his time at TCAT.

As long as it's safe to travel, the shops don't close when the weather turns sour. Automotive Technology students Aaron Jefferson, Mason Pike and Malachi Pike are pictured with a fully-functioning model engine that they put together on a cold and icy day this past winter when there were no vehicles to put on the racks. Aaron purchased the model and it took just a few hours to put it all together. It is complete with cylinders, timing chain, and every other part that an actual automobile engine would have — and it actually starts up and runs!

TCAT Oneida/Huntsville is excited to offer dual-enrollment opportunities in Earthmoving Equipment Operator for students at Union County High School! Thank you to Union County Director of Schools Greg Clay, Union County CTE Director Bryan Shoffner, and Union County High School earthmoving instructor John Fugate for helping to facilitate this partnership!

Union County High School used Innovative School Model funding to purchase a brand-new Bobcat skid steer and a brand-new Bobcat excavator, which rolled onto campus Friday, and will use the new equipment to expand CTE offerings to its students. Although Union County is in TCAT Knoxville's service area and dual-enrolls with TCAT Knoxville in most subject areas, TCAT Oneida/Huntsville recently added an Earthmoving Equipment Operator program and is the first TCAT in East Tennessee to offer this program. The first group of students are already enrolled in Union County's new class offering and will be dual-enrolled with TCAT Oneida/Huntsville in the fall to earn postsecondary credits!
