Only one public history intern this semester but OH was it a great one! Thanks a million to our partner, Historic Huntsville Foundation. More on Glory below.

Working with the Historic Huntsville Foundation has given me an abundance of opportunities to develop and apply essential skills in public history. During my time with HHF, I have had the privilege of curating, drafting, and assembling exhibit materials, fundraising, and even guiding walking tours. Each of these hands-on projects allowed for a level of creative autonomy that encouraged me to produce meaningful and unique work.

Congrats to our history grads. So proud! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘πŸŽ‰πŸ‘πŸ˜

UAH History at the Alabama Historical Association last weekend

Former UAH HY professor, Jack Ellis. won the Alabama Historical Association's 2026 Sulzby book prize for his book Physicians for the People: Black Doctors and the Struggle for Health-Care Equality in Alabama, 1870-1970.

Dr. Whitney Snow got her MA at UAH and now teaches at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX. Dr. Snow presented an excellent paper "Ku Klux Klan Activity in 1920s Guntersville and Gadsden: A Case Study on the Persecution of Immigrants."

No pictures unfortunately, by UAH lecturer Polly Padden gave a really great paper, titled, "Lives Before Loss: How the Army and War Forever Changed the Communities of Pond Beat and Mullins Flat and the People Who Built Them."

Dr. Sears, UAH lecturer Ben Hoksbergen and UAH history major Glory Sipper attended, so good UAH showing!

One more batch of photos from Dr. Johnson’s research trip: Dr. J spent her second week doing research at the Olympic Studies Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, home of the International Olympic Committee. In addition to gathering lots of materials related to Germany’s Olympic bids, she got some resources on the 1996 Atlanta Games which she hopes to analyze alongside some UAH students.

The Olympic Studies Center closed for an hour for lunch everyday, which β€œforced” her to enjoy some lovely walks along and overlooking Lake Geneva.

On her way to Lausanne, she changed trains in Montreux and took some time to visit Chillon Castle and the Freddie Mercury statue there.
