A record 2,337 donors gave a record $6 million+ to Oakwood University this past year!

Those numbers are more than a milestone to me. Each gift represents someone who believes in a Biblically-based education that prepares students for a life of service to God and humanity. I'm honored to give alongside them, and to help raise the support that makes an OU education possible for current and future students.

If Oakwood has shaped your life, or you believe in what we're building, I'd invite you to prayerfully consider joining us. Every gift, at every level, is part of what He has in store for this coming year.

Thank you for your partnership and prayers.

This past Friday, October 16, Oakwood University celebrated the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated former Presidential Dining Suite, now repurposed as a space for our students!

What was once a presidential dining area has been transformed to serve a new purpose, creating more opportunities for our students to connect, engage and enjoy campus life.

We are excited to see this space begin a new chapter in serving our Oakwood community!

Nearly 50 years of sharing hope, and serving the community...now, national recognition! 💙💛

WJOU 90.1 FM has been named one of five finalists for Religious Station of the Year in the 2026 NAB Marconi Radio Awards.

This honor recognizes WJOU's continued commitment to Christian ministry, community engagement and hands-on learning opportunities for Oakwood students pursuing careers in media.

"Dawna Baker, General Manager, and Dammeon Malone, Assistant General Manager, have been tireless in their work for WJOU," said President Gina Spivey-Brown. "Together, with all our previous managers, their innovation, dedication, and vision have brought us to this moment. We couldn't be more honored and proud of this recognition."

Join us in celebrating WJOU's leadership, supporters, and all those who have helped to make this milestone possible. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 in New York City.

Two students. One shared commitment to compassionate care.

Our nursing students, Angelina Chal de la Cruz and Mona Okello, have both received the 2026 Lucy Byard Scholarship from Adventist HealthCare.

Established in Lucy Byard's honor, the scholarship recognizes her legacy. In 1943, Byard, a devout Seventh-day Adventist, was turned away from Washington Sanitarium in Takoma Park due to her skin color. Battling liver cancer and cachexia, she soon passed away in another hospital only about six miles away. This mistreatment prompted a ripple effect of change, with far-reaching benefits.

Today, Adventist HealthCare honors Byard's legacy through its commitment to treating all people with respect and dignity. The Lucy Byard Scholarship was created to ensure and advance equal opportunity in education, helping prepare students for success in school, work, and life.

Congratulations to Angelina, Mona and all the talented young people who have received this scholarship!
