Next Wednesday, November 10th, from 12 - 2 PM, the Filmmaking Learning Series will host Jenny Waldo, independent filmmaker and full-time faculty member and Program Coordinator for HCC’s Filmmaking Program. A graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with an MFA in Film Production, Jenny has produced and directed various shorts including multiple USC thesis films and festival favorites. She associate-produced on the feature documentary about editing, The Cutting Edge: The Magic of Movie Editing, as well as the Houston feature, The Preacher’s Daughter, distributed on Lifetime. Her award-winning short film Acid Test, which played at festivals all over the world including Austin Film Festival, BendFilm, and SXSW is now a feature film that premiered recently at the Austin Film Festival and will be screened at the Cinema Arts Film Festival this month. Jenny will offer her experience and wisdom about crowdfunding, a must for any aspiring independent filmmaker today.

At SHSU Online, we know our students have unique needs. In our mission to meet those needs, our team offers services to produce a wide variety of video, digital, and print media assets, and assistance with live and streaming events on and off campus. We are currently seeking a skilled video producer to assist in the creation of these materials.

What is the role of a Student Video Producer?

You will be working alongside our video production team in running studio sessions and/or handling in-class recordings for SHSU faculty members. You will learn about and assist with writing, production, development and/or other technical aspects of program productions for online courses.

Being a part of our creative process means working within a brand identity and keeping up to date with current trends in production design. You will be expected to solicit and act on critique of your work. While our team values feedback and collaboration, you will also need to learn how to take a design from concept to delivery, using your own skills and judgment.

Responsibilities

Assist video production team in running studio sessions and/or handling in-class recordings for SHSU faculty members.
Work with video production team and team management in conceptualizing projects.
Help ensure that final products are visually appealing, acquiring skills with the appropriate camera and ancillary equipment, as well as the supporting software.

Requirements

Video experience, with a sample of previous work in which the applicant played an assisting role and/or provided creative contributions
A keen eye for aesthetics and details
Team communication skills
Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines

🎬 The call for short films is now OPEN for the 6th Annual Mass Communication Common Reader Film Festival! Inspired by this year’s book, Clint Smith's “Counting Descent,” we encourage all students to produce short films with the central theme "Art and Protest" and submit them to our thematic film festival. This call is open to any currently enrolled SHSU student of any major. Film submissions will be accepted until October 24.
📙 Pick up your copy of “Counting Descent” at the Academic Success Center in the library.
