The Writer's Block

The Writer's Block We aim to make every writer that comes to us better in their own way with unique workshops that will push you just out of your comfort zone.

The Writer's Block is the UAH creative writing club. We have weekly meetings (you can find when and where on our website!) that are open to current UAH students and alumni. At these meetings, our officers present on a topic, then people can partake in a laid-back activity or just hang out. In addition, we also release an annual literary magazine with content from UAH students and alumni. In the Fa

ll, we hold submissions (we accept short stories, poetry, and artwork), and in the Spring we format the magazine for your enjoyment. Digital copies of previous years' magazines and submission guidelines are on our website.

The Writer's Block invites all current UAH students and alumni to learn about the Mycelium 2026 annual creative literary magazine this Friday, September 12, at 7-9pm in Morton Hall room 289.

The magazine accepts works from the above mentioned group, and while you can find submission guidelines on the website (linked below), this is a prime time to ask questions. The results of the Q&A at the end of the presentation will be posted this weekend, so keep an eye out for that. If you have questions before the meeting, think of some after the meeting, or are unable to attend, feel free to ask them below or in the club discord.

If you have friends studying at UAH or who have graduated from UAH who are interested in writing short stories, experimental prose, or poetry, they are welcome to attend. There is no limit in how you write as long as it adheres to the guidelines presented; the editors will do their best to make sure the layout and style of the work is preserved, and will reach out for alternatives if it is not possible.

If you have friends studying at UAH or who have graduated from UAH who are interested in photography, painting, digital artwork, or generally working with a visual medium that can be presented in a png file, they are also welcome to attend, because the magazine does accept artwork.

The Writer's Block asks all current UAH students and alumni to help decide the pieces that will make it into this year's Apotheosis 2025 creative literary magazine. This is a double blind jury: you won't know who you're reviewing, and they won't know who's reviewing their works. Ranked pieces will be due at the end of Thanksgiving Break.

You can sign up here or DM this account for details. https://forms.gle/41VdpfGq7G6zDbSj9

You will receive: gratitude, experience in reviewing written works for quality, more gratitude.
We will receive: ranked pieces.

Thank you for your time!
