Waldo Estate Gift Creates Lasting Impact for HutchCC Students

The Hutchinson Community College Endowment
Association is proud to announce an extraordinary gift
of $1.8 million from the estate of Ray and Dolores
“Dee” Waldo, one of the most significant contributions
in the organization’s history.

This remarkable gift continues a legacy of generosity
from the Waldos, who made a previous $1 million
donation just ten years ago. Their enduring
commitment to education will have a profound and
lasting impact on Hutchinson Community College
students for generations to come.

Ray Waldo attended Hutchinson Community College
during the 1956–57 academic year before beginning a long and successful career as an engineering technician with the Kansas Department of Transportation. Dolores, known to most as Dee, built her career working with Farmers Alliance Insurance Company in McPherson and later with Farm Bureau in Wichita. Married for more than 50 years, Ray and Dee shared a deep appreciation for hard work, community, and the value of education.

Although they had no children of their own, the Waldos believed strongly in investing in future generations. Family members recall their frequent conversations about the importance of education and their desire to make a meaningful, lasting contribution that would help ease the financial burden for students pursuing their goals.

Through this second transformational gift in just a decade, the Waldo legacy will continue to open doors for HutchCC students by expanding scholarship opportunities and supporting other educational endeavors.

The Hutchinson Community College Endowment Association is deeply grateful for the Waldos’ vision and generosity. Their gift not only honors their life together but also ensures that their commitment to education will continue to change lives for years to come.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a special meet and greet with Judy Manka and the student recipients of the Rich and Judy Manka Scholarship. It was a wonderful opportunity for scholars to connect with Judy, share their educational journeys, and express their gratitude in person.

We are incredibly thankful for Rich and Judy Manka’s vision, generosity, and commitment to supporting student success. Their scholarship is making a lasting difference by helping students pursue their goals and build brighter futures.

Thank you, Judy, for your continued support and for investing in the next generation of leaders!

The Hutchinson Community College Endowment Association is honored to announce a $100,000 gift from longtime supporters Terry and Dee Bisbee, creating a new scholarship opportunity for students and providing critical support for key college programs.

Through their generosity, the Bisbees have endowed a Presidential and Leadership Scholarship, establishing a legacy that will benefit high-achieving students for generations to come. The Presidential and Leadership Scholarship program recognizes students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a strong commitment to service. Participants gain access to enhanced educational opportunities, leadership development experiences, and meaningful engagement both on campus and throughout the community, preparing them for continued success beyond HutchCC.

In addition to scholarship support, the gift will also benefit Fine Arts and Athletics, expanding access for students, enriching the overall student experience, and strengthening the college community.

Terry, a HutchCC alumnus from the Class of 1968 and current member of the Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees, has maintained a lifelong connection to the college. “HutchCC opened doors for me, and it’s an honor to help open those same doors for future students,” Terry said. “Dee and I believe deeply in the mission of Hutchinson Community College and the power education has to change lives. This scholarship is about investing in students who are willing to lead, serve, and make a positive impact, both while they’re at HutchCC and long after they graduate.”

HutchCC Endowment Association Director Cindy Keast expressed gratitude for the Bisbees’ continued commitment to the institution. “Terry and Dee Bisbee exemplify what it means to believe in students and in the mission of Hutchinson Community College,” Keast said. “Their generosity will have a lasting impact by empowering students, strengthening our programs, and helping ensure access and excellence for years to come.”

This philanthropic investment reflects Terry and Dee Bisbee’s shared dedication to student success and the future of Hutchinson Community College, helping students pursue their educational goals and creating opportunities that will benefit generations to come.
