Every year we have the privilege of attending the Kansas Advancement Professionals 2025 Annual Conference. It is an amazing few days of seeing friends and collaboration.

The 2025 Kansas Advancement Professionals (KAP) Annual Conference brought together advancement teams from Kansas community and technical colleges for three impactful days of collaboration, learning, and inspiration. Hosted this year by Johnson County Community College Foundation, the conference provided a valuable opportunity for foundation and endowment professionals to connect with peers from across the state.

KAP is a network of dedicated professionals committed to advancing the missions of Kansas’ two-year institutions. This annual gathering fosters professional development, encourages the sharing of ideas and strategies, and supports growth through relevant guest speakers, panel discussions, and breakout sessions tailored to the ever-evolving landscape of higher education philanthropy and engagement.

Attendees left the conference re-energized, equipped with practical tools and fresh perspectives to enhance the work they do for their colleges and the students they serve.

Special thanks to Johnson CCC Foundation for their warm hospitality and support in hosting this year’s event.

Together, we continue to build stronger opportunities for Kansas students.

Kicking off our summer series that highlights outstanding students - we have Davis Barr. From De Soto, Kansas, Davis Barr studied finance at Hutchinson Community College.

His nominator writes, “Davis Barr is truly an outstanding student who puts real effort into everything he does. Davis cares about his work, asks great questions, and is always looking for ways to grow and improve.” They also add, “He doesn’t just aim to get things done—he wants to do them well” before stating, “Davis is not just a great student—he’s a great person.”

In addition to being a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a Presidential Scholar, Davis was also a member of the national-champion-winning HutchCC football team. Furthermore, he was named All-Conference and All-American Punter.

In addition to the memories made through his time on the football team, Davis thoroughly enjoyed attending the Kansas State Fair while at HutchCC. He would like to thank Amber Carithers for her support and Dawn Hendrix for serving as his honors project mentor and guiding him throughout the year. He accepted an offer to play for the University of Central Oklahoma next year.
