Dave Mullins, the Director of Business and Industry, spoke about the Automation Engineering Technology program, the Industrial Mechanical Maintenance, and the Industrial Electrical Technology Certificate. He said, “It’s in demand in McPherson. We actually have a number of apprenticeships with companies in McPherson. And up until this year, those students have driven to Hutch, usually in the evenings for classes. So Viega, Johns-Manville, Westlake Pipe & Fittings, and others, you know, Bradbury, over in Moundridge – they've got students that come to classes with us, but they're also working full-time. And making a good wage, and, you know, getting into a great career. So now some of those students are going to be able to be closer, be able to take classes and then go work their shift and have less commuting time. And McPherson is such a great industrial town. There's so many companies that will be able to take advantage of this, whether it's folks that are in an apprenticeship program and working while they’re doing it – or they’re getting classes while they’re in high school and can get a job, or they’re reskilling.”

Congratulations to Laven Kemp, our newest Youth Apprentice, working at Bradbury.

Yesterday was a great day, we had about 74 young people HutchCC/HCTEA that made a commitment to career and technical education. It is so cool to be able to celebrate these young people for choosing to study for these in demand careers, much like we celebrate students for athletic signings.

Thank you also to the Hutch Chamber, Greater Hutch, Bank of the Plains, Bradbury, Hutch Clinic, Pleasant View Home, Quality Auto Body, and Superior Boiler for sponsoring.
