My name is Alex, and I am reaching out on behalf of the Ski and Snowboard team at the University of Nevada, Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, previously known as Sierra Nevada University. We are an organized team of student athletes who have earned an impressive reputation in the USCSA conference - bringing home the National Championship title across all disciplines in the 2021-2022 season for both our ski and snowboard teams at SNU. From the beginning, this team has successfully dominated the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Competitions. We have received the USCSA National first place title for the last 15 years in a row. We are excited to announce that thanks to another strong group of competitors participating this year, we are on track to have an equally successful 2022-2023 competition season.
Our teams are composed of student athletes with backgrounds from across the country, representing the hometowns of Sun Valley, Snohomish, Portland, Rescue, New York, Ukiah, Pennington, and many more. Our athletes are also heavily involved in our community here in Tahoe, contributing to local organizations through volunteering and various school projects aimed to benefit this beautiful place we call home. All athletes maintain high level grade point averages and are using their scholastic achievements to kickstart their early careers. Sierra Nevada University, now UNR Lake Tahoe, has given our athletes an amazing academic background that helps further develop our potential as students, athletes, and future leaders.
In the past, when Sierra Nevada University was a recognized academic institution, our ski and snowboard teams were recognized and financially supported. We received financial backing for our competition season, including access to practice facilities, passes to local resorts, and travel budgets for the entire season. After Sierra Nevada University was absorbed by the University of Nevada Reno (UNR), our budget was severely impacted. Unfortunately, this leaves our student athletes predominantly responsible for our competition, practice, and general team expenses. On behalf of our student athletes, we are reaching out and asking for financial assistance to help us reach our funding goals for this season. Keeping our winning team alive will only be possible with financial support from our community.
