IUP Writing Across the Curriculum Teach, Write, Teach Writing

The Writing Across the Curriculum program provides support for IUP faculty in implementing writing into their courses.

The Writing Across the Curriculum program provides support for faculty university-wide in implementing writing into their courses. The program aims to create and sustain a community of writers at IUP. In Fall 2012, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences committed to creating the university-wide initiative with four main agendas:

1. Provide faculty development for those teaching writing-int

ensive courses, including workshops and training for those interested in proposing writing-intensive courses, and support for all faculty across the university in implementing writing assignments into their courses

2. Provide support and consultation to the Liberal Studies Committee as needed in revising writing-intensive course requirements

3. Create a research agenda for studying and understanding the effectiveness of how writing is taught and learned in the university curriculum

4. Foster a community of writers through various media (such as contests, readings, workshops, newsletters, etc.) and relationships (with the Writing Center, the IUP Libraries, and various departments across campus).

Starting today!!

For the 13th year, IUP will celebrate the National Day on Writing. Established in 2009 by the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Day on Writing (October 20th) celebrates composition in all forms—from stories, poems, and letters to text messages, videos, and audio recordings—and demonstrates how writing is a vital part of our everyday lives. Thousands of writers from across the country recognize the National Day on Writing with local events, including write-ins, talks by local authors, and poetry slam celebrations.
