Today, we are featuring Marian University Online's own Dr. Lesley Neff! Dr. Neff is the Executive Director of Online Innovation for MUO.

Dr. Lesley Neff has been with Marian University for 18 years and currently serves as Executive Director of Online Innovation - Marian Online, leading the online faculty and working in project and program management, curriculum development, online course design and development, research and community outreach. Neff graduated from Purdue University, in Lafayette, Indiana, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English. Her Master of Arts degree, in English, is from Butler University, with a concentration in literature. She completed Marian's Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership in August of 2023.
Neff co-founded the Women’s College Partnership with Marian University and Bard College in 2019. She co-coordinates and volunteers in the Beyond Learning Pre-College Program at the Indiana Women's Prison and co-leads the Committee on College Pathways for Mothers with Justice Involvement.

She is very grateful to Marian University for truly welcoming students with justice involvement. The Committee on College Pathways for Mothers with Justice Involvement is rooted in Dr. Lesley Neff’s doctoral research, "Lived Experiences of Formerly Incarcerated Mothers: Navigating Societal Stigmas and Barriers Impeding Their Pathways to Pursue Higher Education," and extends that work into action. The committee’s aim is to create a nationally recognized model of inclusion and support for justice-involved mothers in higher education. Justice involved mothers collaborate with university faculty and staff to create a compassionate, confidence building infrastructure that empowers students with justice involvement to re-enter college. It has been a privilege to work alongside the Committee members and so many wonderful colleagues who have supported this mission over the years.

For this Faculty Feature Friday, we are proud to introduce Dr. Ruth Torres!

Dr. Ruth Torres worked for 17 years as a physician in Costa Rica and moved to the United States in 1999. She and her husband have a daughter, two dogs, and a home in the countryside because they love nature. Dr. Ruth and her family have visited 26 of the 50 states and also love to travel overseas.

Ruth worked at Ivy Tech Community College since 2010, teaching for the Life and Sciences Department, but she is now fully retired and enjoying life. She remained with Marian Online in her retirement and currently teaches pathophysiology as an online adjunct faculty member for Marian University Online. She loves teaching and learning at the same time. She says, “in our life, we must be open to always learning from others and become lifetime learners, because every single day we will find a lot of changes happening around us.”

In her spare, retired time, Ruth loves reading books; she is also a crime ju**ie and listens to various podcasts about crime, while she is cooking or baking.

Yesterday, the Marian University Online team stepped away from the day-to-day and leaned into what truly fuels our work: connection, collaboration, and shared purpose.

Our retreat was an opportunity to grow together, to strengthen the bonds that make us better teammates and better stewards of our mission. Through meaningful conversation, reflection, and a lot of good laughs, we left with renewed energy and alignment to support Marian University Indianapolis Journey toward 2030.

We were especially grateful for our guests, who helped us expand our thinking and connect our work to the greater impact we’re striving for each day. Dr. Kenith Britt kicked off the morning through discussion and forward thinking of the impact of online education. Angela Phelps, BBA, MA led us through Lego Serious Play exercise where our team got to think on our feet and utilize hands on learning to find our personal and team superpowers. Kristin Stapleton shared her time reminding us that a teams work is so much stronger and powerful than what we can do on our own. We got a tour from Christopher Creighton at our future home down Coldspring Road. Their presence added inspiration, expertise, and heart to the experience.

Here’s to continuing the momentum, supporting one another, challenging ourselves to grow, and building something we’re proud to stand behind.
