"During my time here, I was able to meet people from all over the world and all sorts of different backgrounds."

Four years ago, Nerea Lancho was looking not just for a place where she could pursue one of the top business educations in the world, but also keep her passion for golf alive. At IU Indianapolis she found her home "[I was able to] achieve all my academic goals while competing at one of the highest athletic levels."

Graduating with a Kelley School of Business Finance and International Studies co-major, the Madrid native golfed in her final collegiate tournament last month.

Thinking about IU Indianapolis? As an international student, here's Nerea's advice: "Beginnings are always hard, moving away from your home country and being here completely alone and surrounded by a different culture is a big adjustment... Once you begin making friends and having fun, it will be much easier, and your time here will be one of the memories that you will forever cherish."

"I studied abroad so that I could gain hands on learning experience, travel to a place I had never been with amazing classmates and staff, experience a new culture while deepening my understanding of healthcare in different countries."

BA of Psychology Montana Crossman grew up all around the United States, but didn't give up her wide-reaching experiences when she made IU Indy her collegiate home. Whether studying abroad in the Dominican Republic or working with Dutch students on a class project, Montana made the most of her global education.

"IU Indy has many opportunities to study abroad and away in places all over the world for different durations of time and I wish I had enough time to do them all!"

Congratulations, Montana!

International Student Success Ambassador Hailie Ridge has been a fixture of the program (and our advertising!) all year long, but this month she graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science. From Centerville, Indiana, Hailie shares why she got involved with IU Indy's international community:

"I became an ISSA because I wanted to show students the culture here in Indy and I wanted to learn more about their culture. The highlight to my experience at IU Indy Global has been hosting events out in the community. My favorite event was going to an Indians game where we had over 30 students attend!"

While we'll miss her modeling and mentoring skills, she's not going far: she's already started her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy with !

University is always a time for growth, something Vaishnavi Chouhan felt that during her undergraduate experience, which culminates tomorrow at commencement.

"My favorite part of studying at IU Indy has definitely been the community I found here... The mentors, friends and advisors all really helped me grow and become the person I am today."

Vaishnavi, originally from Hyderabad, India, graduates with degrees in Biology and Neuroscience.

"The vibrant research environment, meaningful mentorships, and the chance to grow as both a leader and a learner have been the highlights of my journey here."

Stuti Kaushalkumar Patel, an international student from Ahmedabad, India, shared what has been her favorite part of studying at IU Indy. With a Health Systems study abroad that took her to the UN in Geneva, Switzerland, multiple research and global learning opportunities, and one of the best photos with the Jaguar we've ever seen, there was a lot to pick from!

Stuti graduates this month with a BS in Biotechnology and minors in Chemistry and Math.

"IU Indianapolis is not only diverse in its education and research but also in its student-led organizations and leadership opportunities."

A long time student worker with the Multicultural Center, soon-to-be graduate Min's global experiences didn't end off campus. As a part of her BA in Art History, she studied abroad in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, immersing herself in the artistically and historically rich cities of Berlin, Vienna and Prague WHILE filling a credit for her major.

"The most impactful and memorable moment from my study abroad was the people I traveled with and the strangers I met along the way. I got to travel with an incredibly talented group of students and two knowledgeable professors. A few of the students were my friends, but by the end of the three weeks, we had gotten to know each other really well."

Min will take her BA in Art History and Certificate in Museum Studies to VCU in the fall for a Master in Art History.

"I chose IU Indy because of the great academic and professional opportunities."

Originally from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Clara Pineda graduated this month with a BS in Applied Statistics and a BA in Global & International Studies from . A student advisor to the Chancellor and Undergraduate Student Government President, Clara made the most of her time in Indianapolis, including a summer study abroad to London, UK.

"My favorite part of studying at IU Indy has been getting involved in several student organizations and meeting people from all over the United States and around the world. Taking advantage of the resources available, such as Study Abroad opportunities, made my IU Indy experience a global and unforgettable experience!"

"It’s not just about me—it’s about paving the way for my community and inspiring younger generations to dream bigger and go further."

That is Ally Shelton-Jones' Why: Why IU Indianapolis, why study abroad, why college.

Graduating with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and B.A. in Sociology, she didn't come from a background where opportunities like college—let alone studying abroad!—came along frequently. Her study abroad in Ghana, especially visiting places like the Door of No Return connected her to her African roots and inspired her for the future. "It reignited a deep sense of purpose within me—to walk boldly in my calling and maintain the same level of resilience that they had in everything I do."

"My IU Indy experience was global because it encouraged me to think beyond borders. Through study abroad, cultural organizations, and academic exploration, I’ve been able to engage with global perspectives, especially within the Black diaspora, and apply that lens to my studies and community work."

"From the student organizations I've attended, to the friends I've made it the classroom, IUI's diverse cultural study body is apparent."

Aspiring physician Anum Ansar's IU Indy experience has always been a global one. In addition to participating in a virtual exchange for one of her courses (which turned into a friendship that continues!) she studied abroad not once, not twice, but THREE times before graduation. Why?

"As an immigrant myself, I am no stranger to culture shock. I believe it is very important to have an awareness of how culture affects the way you can interact with the world. I hope to learn about as many cultures as possible to better understand any patient that comes my way in my future career as a physician."

Originally from Pakistan, Anum graduates this May with a BA in Biology and minors in Arts and Creative Writing.
