We are deeply saddened to share the recent passing of our dear friend, colleague, and mentor, Dr. Scott Deal. In the worlds of percussion, music technology, and education, Scott was a pioneer and an extraordinary, unstoppable force.

Over his more than 30-year career, Scott became known as a virtuosic percussionist, a trailblazer in synchronous live performance over the internet, and an innovator in technology-assisted musical expression.

We will do our best to honor Scott in ways fitting to his life: by seeking out collaborations that transcend discipline and ideology; by courageously exploring bold and innovative creativity; and by sharing our knowledge with the next generation of talented musicians, artists, and educators.

Students from Herron’s undergraduate music technology program will present original works drawn from a wide array of musical styles including electronic pop, house, hip-hop, noise, experimental, and beyond.

Herron’s music technology program is proud to partner with Big Car Collaborative, whose Tube Factory artspace will serve as a stage for this exciting afternoon of live music.
