The public interest is best served through assuring the availability of a quality education for all children; and knowledgeable, ethical, effective leaders are essential to achieving this educational excellence. The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS) was established with this premise in 1960. IAPSS is a non-profit, professional association serving 425 members, including s

uperintendents and other school administrators, professors of education, university students studying educational administration, and retired superintendents. Professional development activities are targeted at improving the educational process, promoting the efficient operation of schools, and developing new superintendents. Association meetings provide a forum for discussion of a variety of educational issues between members and state and national experts. IAPSS often partners with the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA) and the Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) to provide coordinated workshops for their combined memberships. The association is also an affiliate of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), with three Indiana superintendents serving as past presidents of the national group. Finally, IAPSS monitors state and federal legislative activity and provides a united voice for superintendents with the Indiana General Assembly, working to advocate for effective legislation to enhance education.
