Alpha Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. The first and oldest chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho. Chartered December 30, 1929 at Butler University. This is exemplified in all of our programs and activities.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was founded on Sunday, November 12, 1922 at Butler University by seven school teachers. It is the only historically Black sorority to be founded on a predominately white campus. Not only did the founders face the hardships of being a Black organization on a majority white campus, but the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan lived right next to Butler University. The women of t

his illustrious organization abide by the motto: Greater Service, Greater Progress. We believe that the only way we can move forward is to provide service to our community. Our sisterhood is committed to helping our youth, our families, and our country. And we accept woman of all backgrounds, ethnicity, and majors as a student organization at Butler University! Join the ALMIGHTY Alpha Chapter in celebrating Soror Edyn Curry on her recent awards and recognitions!

Soror Curry recently presented her research at the Midwestern Psychological Association Conference in Chicago, Illinois. In addition, she received the Stuart Research Fellowship Award and the Edgar Lee Yeager Memorial Award from the Psychology Department for her outstanding performance in psychology. Through her passion for learning and commitment to impactful research, Soror Curry continues to represent the values of leadership, service, and excellence both on Butler’s campus and in professional spaces.

We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and cannot wait to see all she achieves during her senior year!

This recognition honors her dedication to the Diversity Centers Dawg Days pre-orientation program, commitment to mentoring first year students, and passion for creating a welcoming and supportive campus community beyond orientation week. Today, we stood in solidarity with survivors and raised awareness by wearing denim to challenge harmful myths and victim-blaming. Denim Day, held on the last Wednesday of April, reminds us that clothing is never consent and that every survivor deserves to be heard, supported, and believed.

This past Sunday, the Almighty Alpha Chapter joined Butler Fraternity and Sorority Life for the Emerging Leaders Retreat. Surrounded by 50+ new leaders across Panhellenic, IFC, NPHC, and MCGC, we engaged in meaningful conversations, leadership development, and community building.
