A new Indiana University School of Medicine research team is taking a cutting-edge approach to understanding Parkinson’s disease. 🔬

Funded by a $9 million investment, the interdisciplinary team of School of Medicine scientists and interdisciplinary experts will map the disease’s biological blueprint and build a global toolkit to accelerate turning discoveries into treatments, as well as explore how lifestyle and environmental factors may shape disease risk.

"The ultimate goal is to leverage knowledge of immune system aging to identify individuals at greater risk for Parkinson’s disease and then target the dysregulated processes in those individuals with treatments designed specifically for them, in ways similar to what the cancer field does today," said Malú Gámez Tansey, PhD, professor of neurology at IU School of Medicine, and lead primary investigator on the project.

IU Indianapolis is proud to congratulate the graduates of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy inaugural cohort for the Professional Doctorate in Philanthropic Leadership (PhilD) program. 🎓🤲

This past month, seventeen scholars received the world’s first professional doctoral leadership degree for the nonprofit sector, crossing the stage as true pioneers of their field.

“[The program] strengthened my ability to navigate ambiguous situations, ask better questions of my clients and my teams, and design solutions that are both innovative and grounded in data,” said Tiffany Williams, PhilD ’26.

IU Indianapolis is helping middle school students answer the age old question — "What do you want to be when you grow up?" 💼💭

Through Kids College, a free college-readiness camp for middle school students, campers receive all the tools they need to learn more about their fields of interest and explore what their futures could look like. From hands-on experiences throughout the week to building vision boards, the program aims to create a support system for the kids as they finish school.

"There are so many different careers, and right now, I don't know what I want to do, so this camp is helping me figure it out," said camper, Mia Perira.

"I chose IU Indianapolis because this campus felt like home, a close-knit campus community in the capital city." 🏙️

For IU Indianapolis School of Science graduate Taylor Loudermilk, choosing IU Indianapolis felt like the right fit from the start, thanks to the incredible support from faculty and staff early on. Four years later, she turned that support into action. From hands-on research in academic and wet-lab settings to founding the Beta Iota Chapter of Delta Delta Epsilon, a national forensic science honors society, Taylor made the most of every opportunity to engage with her field, connect with her community, and leave her mark on campus. 🧪🤝

"The vast network of opportunities from this bustling urban campus allowed me to thrive and expand my studies. I couldn't have chosen a better place to study for four years; the connections, scholarship, learning experiences, and opportunities are unmatched," said Loudermilk.

She plans to continue pursing Forensic Sciences postgrad and prepare for additional studies in a Master's in Forensic Science.
