Purdue Air Race

The Purdue Air Race Team consists of two groups: the ground crew and the racers. The ground crew is an essential part of the Team.

These students are the ones that analyze weather patterns, winds, forecasts, front locations, pressure systems, density altitude, and hazardous weather in order to give the racers the best possible (and fastest) route for the race. They also calculate fuel burn, climbing and descending information, and whether to fly the next leg or to wait for better weather. The racers are two women students tha

t fly the race across the country. The co-pilot becomes the captain for the next race so there is some experience on the team. They fly in all different locations across the country and it is a great opportunity to build time and race across a hundred other female pilots from around the country! Overall, this is a hard working ground of students that just love aviation. We will keep you updated the days before the race and during it from the ground and in the air!

We, the Purdue Air Race Team, had the privilege of attending the INAHOF Honors Banquet in September and accepting a grant from the Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame (501 c3). The Honored inductees, FAA Administrator Bedford, Astronauts Brown and Ross, ATA head pilot Rowe, and guest speaker and Purdue Graduate USAF Fighter Pilot Heather Penney all encouraged us to further our aerospace education. Our team arrived in Fairhope on Thursday, and have been exploring the town ever since. We are super excited for the takeoff banquet tomorrow and race start on Tuesday!
