I would also like everyone to keep on the lookout for new and exciting things that the English Department will be hosting!

The English Department at Simpson College kicks off the 2021-22 Poets & Writers Series next month, welcoming novelist Shana Youngdahl to read on November 8 at 7 p.m. (Zoom). Her first novel, As Many Nows As I Can Get, is the story of a seemingly grounded girl who's pulled into a lightning-strike romance with an electric-charged boy, and the enormity of the aftermath. Smart, bold, and emotionally deep, Shana Youngdahl's debut explores grief, guilt, and reconciling who you think you need to be with the person you've been all along. Her writing has been compared to John Green's (The Fault in Our Stars) and has been warmly received by young adult readers and grown-up fans alike.

Shana will read and take questions about writing, her books, and life as a writer on November 8 at 7 p.m. This event is free of charge, and will be held over Zoom. Registration in advance is required.

You can tag Shana on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/shanayoungdahl/ and link to the Pageturners website, which has her book for sale: https://pageturnersbookstore.com/item/3bfSPEKfdTeAXGwbJyl_sw. Finally, Penguin/Random House has this excerpt from the novel available on their website, another great way to get people interested: http://www.penguinteen.com/fridayreads-as-many-nows-as-i-can-get/.
