Psychology students meeting researchers in their textbooks face to face at the Midwest Psychological Association Conference in Chicago this weekend.

Pictured in the middle is Elizabeth Loftus, a researcher heavily studied in the cognitive psychology field because of her expertise in human memory. She has received numerous honors and awards, and has been ranked 58th in the Review of General Psychology’s list of the 100 most influential psychological researchers of the 20th century.

Here is Mary Hudson making us proud at the Midwest Psychological Association's 89th Annual Meeting in Chicago. Mary is presenting research on the comparison of mindsets in English and math course ability in STEM and Non-STEM majors.

Ever wonder what our psychology professors are up to?

Dr. Groben uses longitudinal research methods to collect data from families over several years and then applies advanced statistical techniques to identify predictors of psychological outcomes, such as academic achievement motivation and mental health. Her current research projects include the following:

STEM Motivation: research examines how gender, implicit theories (mindsets), and self-concept influence sustained motivation for mathematics and other STEM disciplines among high school and college students

Behavioral Genetics and Depression: research examines how specific genetic variants and environmental risk factor contribute jointly to adolescent depression

Work-Family Issues: research examines how women and men negotiate the transition to parenthood and the effects parenting has on work and family life

Throughout the course of a semester, Simpson Psychology students are given their very own rat in order to analyze behavior experimentally. Students teach their rat various assignments-from jumping hurdles to dancing to Miley Cyrus.
Micah here has taught Remmi how to play tug-of-war with a rubber ball and string.
