White people labor mightily to hold on to racist team nicknames. It has nothing to do with the names themselves. It has everything to do with the desperation of white people to not lose yet another cultural battle.

Doubt me? Then riddle me this: If you were building a new high school today and coming up with a nickname for its teams, would you choose any one of the names that comes in for such heat? Of course, you wouldn’t.

But you don’t want to concede the historic racism of your community, so you will fight to the death to keep the offensive name that dates 100 years back or more.

Stop being on the wrong side of history, Indianola.

There have been public presentations on both sides of the Indians logo debate. Now, it was time for a frank discussion.

Looking forward to Women’s History Month Simpson College!
