Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. University of Iowa

In 1975, there were no Latino fraternities in existence in the United States. The traditional student club would not suffice to accomplish such lofty goals.

The Greek-letter organizations of the time primarily catered to Anglo and African-American students and graduates. Lambda’s founders, as men of vision, realized there was a need to unite the Latino students, develop their leadership skills, impart upon them the value of an education, and instill in them a commitment to their community and culture. Hence, Latino unity and brotherhood would be achie

ved through a long recognized institution – the fraternity. This newest addition to the Greek system would be the first in the nation, by identity and by name: Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Incorporated.

September 15th marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month and the independence day of many South American countries. Today September 16th marks the independence day of México. We are proud of all of our people and their accomplishments! En La unión está la Fuerza!

It has come to attention that a member of our organization has committed actions that do not represent the values we uphold. We do not tolerate misconduct or harassment of any sort. As a result, the perpetrator is no longer a member of our organization. We want to reengage with our community to encourage upstanding behavior. In addition, we will be donating half of our proceeds this year to DVIP/RVAP. We will continue to collaborate with our community partners to charter a strong and supportive path forward. We will learn from this experience.
