Iowa Student Bar Association

Iowa Student Bar Association This is the page for the Iowa Student Bar Association at the U. of Iowa College of Law ISBA also administers the Boyd Service Award.

The Iowa Student Bar Association (ISBA) acts as the student government at the law school and is both a collective voice for the student body and a source of organization and funding for a variety of college activities and programs. ISBA is governed by an executive council consisting of a president (or co-presidents) elected at large and representatives elected from each class. The first-year class

elects representatives in September who serve through April. The ISBA provides opportunities for students to get involved, be informed, and have fun. Opportunities for involvement come in the form of becoming class representatives and serving on the faculty-student committees that deal with a variety of concerns, including admissions, curriculum, financial aid, and career services. ISBA brings in speakers and sponsors events with other organizations. On the fun side, ISBA annually sponsors social events throughout the year.

Please see below the message from Dean Washburn. ISBA hopes you all make safe and healthy choices for yourself, our community, and Iowa Law!

Dear Students –

We have nearly completed one week in our blended model. So far, so good! I want to thank everyone for behaving so responsibly in the Boyd Law Building this week. The building has felt like a relatively safe environment, and it has been fun to have first year students in the building this week. I urge each of you to practice responsible behavior outside the building, too. Based on the general test data, the level of community spread in Iowa City appears to be high. As the weekend comes, please be thoughtful about your activities. We know that none of us are immune from whatever happens more broadly in Iowa City, but we want each of you to be safe. In order to keep our community healthy, some of you have voluntarily self-reported and self-isolated when you suspected COVID-19 exposure or infection. Please continue to follow the University of Iowa’s guidelines related to COVID-19 because it will promote the wellness of our entire community. I personally thank you for taking those steps.

Our twin goals are to help insure that, pandemic or not, none of you are knocked off your path to a legal education and that our students, faculty and staff are safe. We appreciate your flexibility as we keep adjusting to achieve those goals. If anyone would like to discuss any situation that is adversely affecting your path through law school, please do not hesitate to reach out to Associate Dean Carin Crain at [email protected]. She would be happy to hear from you. As the weekend approaches, let’s continue to be careful out there!
