Welcome back, engineers! 🦅⚙️

The halls are full again, and we’re ready for another semester of learning, creating, and innovating. Let’s make it a great one! 💛🖤

Two weeks ago, BME students took their learning beyond the classroom and headed to Denver! 🏔️

From August 4–6, students had the opportunity to visit Medtronic, Terumo BCT, and Genesee Biomedical to learn more about the medical device industry, explore engineering careers, and connect with professionals in the field. 🔬⚙️

And the trip wasn’t all business! Students also caught a Rockies game ⚾️ and explored Meow Wolf 🎨✨, making for three days of learning, networking, and plenty of memories.

A great look at where a Biomedical Engineering degree can take you! 💛🖤

🌎🐤From Iowa to Shanghai!

Meet Tyler Morgan, a senior in engineering spending his summer as an Electronics Hardware Engineering Co-op at Schneider Electric in Cedar Rapids.

Tyler works on developing experimental technologies for circuit breakers used across North America, splitting his time between the office and lab to build test fixtures and simulation models.

This summer, he took his experience global ✈️🇨🇳, traveling to China to visit suppliers, see how his designs are being implemented, collaborate with engineers, and present his work at Schneider Electric’s Shanghai design center.

📸 And of course, he had to bring a little Iowa with him!

For Tyler, one of the best parts of his co-op is being treated like a real engineer and working on projects that have a real impact on technology people use every day.

Way to represent the Hawkeyes around the world, Tyler! 🖤💛

This summer, engineering PhD student Grant Finneman is joining NASA’s INSPYRE mission, helping gather data on pyrocumulonimbus clouds caused by intense wildfires. 🔥

Working alongside flight and maintenance crews, scientists, and engineers, Grant and other students are supporting research that deepens our understanding of wildfire behavior, smoke movement, and atmospheric impacts — and that could lead to better forecasting and improved firefighter safety. 🚒👨🏿‍🚒

☀️ Engineering Summer Spotlight ☀️

Meet Milad Arzani, a fourth-year Biomedical Engineering student spending his summer as an R&D Intern at Imperative Care in Campbell, California.

This summer, Milad is part of the Advanced Development team, where he’s building his skills in 3D modeling and electrical circuits while gaining his first experience in an industry R&D setting.

One of the highlights of his internship has been the people.

“The team here is amazing. They are so fun to work with, and their belief in your capabilities keeps increasing your confidence.”

Milad’s advice for fellow engineering students:

“Keep applying and reaching out to places until you find one.”

Swipe through to learn more about Milad’s internship experience, his day-to-day routine, and what he’s learned along the way!

From design and coding to launch day🚀

University of Iowa engineering students spent months designing, building, and testing a high-powered rocket, integrating custom sensors, GPS technology, flight software, and printed circuit boards. Their hardwork culminated in competition at the Midwest High-Power Rocketry Competition in Minnesota.
