Office of Community Engagement University of Iowa Office of Community Engagement The University of Iowa has a long and proud tradition of serving the public through community engagement.

Every day, students, faculty, researchers, and community partners work together to impact the state of Iowa through community engagement projects. In fact, many of the buildings on campus are named after scholars deeply committed to serving the public good. Today, community engagement takes on many forms at the university, from service-learning courses, to faculty, staff, and students conducting research that is engaged with community partners across the state and beyond.

🌟 Join the Undergraduate Engagement Corps (UEC)! 🌟

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? The UEC program is designed for full-time undergrads who want hands-on experience in community engagement, research, and partnership building.

As a UEC member, you’ll:
📚 Take a 1 s.h. spring seminar focused on best practices and principles of community engagement.

🛠 Be invited to participate in workshops and events on campus and in the community.

🤝 Receive mentorship as you design a community-engaged project in your hometown.

💲 Apply for an exclusive UEC grant to support your project!
Together, these experiences give you the tools to tackle real-world problems, strengthen community partnerships, and prepare to be an engaged citizen and leader.

Outreach Librarian Mac Edwards gave students a behind-the-scenes tour, and Development Office Coordinator, Katie Roche shared the many ways ICPL serves our community.

Discover the power of music with Tremble Clefs-Iowa, a therapeutic singing group designed for individuals with PD, their caregivers, and family members!

Researchers are finding that common symptoms of Parkinson's disease—such as difficulties with voice, breathing, posture, facial expression, movement, mood, and memory—are improved when we sing.

The group meets on Mondays from 10:30-noon at the Senior Center, Room 302; 28 S. Linn St., Iowa City. We start the fall season on Monday, September 8, 2025, and meet weekly until December 15. The spring season runs Feb. 2, 2026-May 11.

You do not need to attend all sessions to benefit; join us at any time! Even one singing session can improve voice quality.

No musical experience is required for this group. The program includes vocal exercises, breathing techniques, and movement exercises. You do not need to bring anything with you except yourselves. Materials are provided. Tremble Clefs-Iowa is grant-funded, so membership is free!

This fall, 16 students are diving into our First-Year Seminar “Beyond Volunteering: Changing Your World Through Community Engagement.”
Our first class trip took us to Iowa City City Hall where we heard from City Manager Geoff Fruin, Mayor Pro Tem Mazahir Salih, and City Councilor Laura Bergus.
As new Iowa City residents, students got an inside look at all the ways the city serves the community—from parks & rec 🌳 to sidewalks & streets 🚦, festivals 🎉, housing 🏡, and more!
