Shaw has visited Iowa City to perform on Hancher's stage and engage with University of Iowa students a handful of times throughout our last few seasons. She was even our composer-in-residence during our 2023–2024 season!

Saxophone legend Sonny Rollins passed away this week at age 95. Once called “the last remaining titan of jazz,” Rollins brought his iconic sound to Hancher in 1993.

A Hancher press release from that year captured it best stating “For many, Sonny Rollins is more than just a musician or performer. For them, a Rollins concert is a revelatory, almost religious experience.”

He will be missed and his legacy will live on in the world of jazz. 🎷
