πŸŽ“ Graduate Spotlight: Laiken Hobbs
Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Laiken Hobbs has always loved helping people. When her papaw got sick when she was younger, that love deepened into a calling. Now she's graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University Southern and heading into a full-time position in the Emergency Department at KDMC.

She says nursing school taught her that she can do anything she puts her mind to, and her favorite memories are the ones she made alongside her cohort and professors along the way.

This National Nurses Week we are proud to celebrate Laiken and the power of nurses everywhere.

We're still celebrating our grads! See Laiken's full spotlight at the link below and submit your own:

Two causes, one drive. 🐾🍼
The Student Nurses Association at just wrapped up their "Paws and Crawls" Drive. They made deliveries today to two organizations close to our community's heart.

🏠 Safe Harbor of Northeast Kentucky β€” an emergency shelter serving domestic violence victims and their children β€” received 1,500 wipes, 378 diapers, 4 cans of formula, 5 baby blankets, a convertible car seat, and a pack-and-play.

🐾 AARF (Ashland Animal Rescue Fund) received over 200 pounds of dog and cat food β€” and our SNA officers stuck around to spend an hour loving on the animals at the shelter.

Nursing is about caring for people at their most vulnerable. These students live that every day. Proud of our SNA officers and their faculty advisor, Professor Nicole Stumbo! πŸ’š

🐢🐱 BONUS: AARF is running a $50 adoption special this weekend only that includes spay/neuter β€” and they currently have over 100 animals looking for homes. If you've been thinking about adding a furry family member, this is your sign!

Before they crossed the stage, they were already making an impact. πŸŽ“

Last October, our BSN seniors headed to a local middle school to lead a student health fair β€” teaching kids about things like nutrition, exercise, hand hygiene, dental hygiene, and general safety. This is what community health nursing looks like in practice: meeting people where they are and making it accessible.

These students just graduated last week. We're proud of everything they did β€” including this. πŸŽ“πŸ’šπŸΎπŸ©Ί

Spring semester wrapped up just last week β€” and this week, our faculty and final-semester ADN students are already back in the lab. πŸŽ“βž‘οΈπŸ©Ί

In their first lab of the summer semester, students practiced hands-on use and patient teaching for orthopedic and trauma assistive devices β€” cervical collars, crutches, walkers, and more.

To close out lab, they put their skills to the test in a little friendly competition: a race to see who could move fastest with an assistive device β€” with one catch. Incorrect technique meant immediate disqualification. Turns out, safe form holds up even when there's something on the line.
Final semester. Let's go. πŸ’ͺ

congratulates Garrett Looney, BSN alum, on receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This recognition reflects the compassionate, patient-centered care that defines great nursing β€” and we are so proud to call Garrett one of our own. 🌼

Congratulations to Garrett Looney, RN, for winning the prestigious DAISY Award!

Garrett is a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. The care he provided resulted in the following nomination:

β€œGarrett takes pride in his job by making sure patients and family were notified of any changes. When I went to visit my son, he was taking such good care to make sure he was comfortable. He explained every step and every test result that they had completed. This young man deserves recognition for a job I can tell he takes to heart and cares about his patients. Such a young man to have such a caring heart. Thank you, Garrett for taking care of my son.”

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award is an international recognition program that celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day.
