UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing

UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing Our vision is to transform nursing by preparing pioneers in research, education, & practice. The UC Irvine Program in Nursing Science was established in 2007.

In 2016, the William and Sue Gross Family Foundation committed $40 million to UC Irvine to establish a nursing school and assist in the construction of a new building to house it. The contribution is the largest single gift ever to UC Irvine. The School of Nursing provides academic and professional education in the discipline of nursing. Nursing is interdisciplinary and collaborative in its art an

d its science. The body of knowledge that comprises nursing science includes application of knowledge from the biological, social, behavioral and biomedical sciences. Our School prepares graduates for basic clinical and advanced practice roles. It also prepares them for educational, administrative and research positions across the healthcare delivery system, as well as faculty positions in academic institutions. Nursing science research is formulated in an expanded view of health that includes health promotion, restoration and rehabilitation. Our School promotes outstanding research in nursing science subspecialties and in related faculty areas of interest. The purpose of the UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing page is for:
• Recruitment and advertising of nursing school programs
• Marketing nursing school events
• School of nursing staff/faculty posts

May is National Nurses Month

The UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing is moving the needle to advance research in dementia care.

Our nurse researchers are using robots, AI and sensor technology to study agitation, sleep and fall prevention. A year after launching an ambitious research effort to support dementia patients and caregivers, the research has moved into real-world care settings, collecting data directly from patients and using AI-driven technology to better understand agitation, sleep disruption and fall risk.

May is National Nurses Month

In a hospital room, there is rarely time to pause. A patient dies; another needs to be discharged. Machines beep. Decisions stack up. Nursing moves forward.

The UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing is moving the needle to advance nursing, not just through clinical care, workforce training, research, education, but also reflection.

The Sue & Bill Gross Center for Nursing Philosophy creates space to ask what care really means and how it matters. The Center carves out space for something increasingly rare in modern healthcare: reflection – not as an abstract exercise but as a necessary part of understanding what constitutes nursing and what it could become.

May is National Nurses Month

UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing is moving the needle to advance nursing, not just through clinical care, but also through workforce training, research and education.

Doctor of Nursing Practice faculty are serving patients directly through UC Irvine-affiliated FQHCs and the Student Health Center while simultaneously teaching and mentoring the next generation of nurse practitioners. The integrated faculty practice model allows nursing faculty to provide care in underserved communities as part of their academic appointments – a structure that remains uncommon in nursing education.
