Can the order of a résumé influence an AI hiring decision? 🤖 New research from UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business Professor Vidyanand Choudhary and Merage PhD alumna Haonan Yin reveals how AI models can change their selections when the same options are presented in a different order. Their research found that these position effects can create significant distortions in AI decision-making, highlighting risks for organizations using AI in high-stakes settings.

For 12 years, the Investments, Financial Planning, and You (IFPY) summer program has introduced high school students to the world of investing, financial planning, and wealth management at the UCI Paul Merage School of Business.

Hosted by the Todd and Lisa Halbrook Center for Investment and Wealth Management, IFPY just wrapped up its biggest year yet—expanding IFPY to four sessions throughout June and July, and welcoming 241 high school students to the Merage School.

Throughout the weeklong program, students explored advanced financial concepts, participated in a simulated stock trading competition, and applied what they learned through a culminating investment capstone project.

We are proud to celebrate another year of IFPY and the continued growth of a program that helps young people build financial knowledge, explore the world of investing and wealth management, and discover where an interest in finance might take them. To learn more, visit merage.uci.edu/ifpy.

Meet Scott Green, MBA ’96, whose journey from the Fully Employed MBA program at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business to entrepreneurship ultimately led him to found RiseHyre, an Orange County nonprofit helping people facing barriers to employment build skills, connections and pathways to meaningful careers.

Through paid apprenticeships and connections with Orange County employers, RiseHyre is helping individuals turn second chances into lasting opportunities. The organization places apprentices at roughly a 95% success rate, demonstrating the impact business leaders can have when they use their networks to open doors for others. 🤝

The Pacific Life LIFEvest Financial Literacy Program is celebrating its 16th successful summer. 💼

This year, LIFEvest welcomed more than 130 high school students to UC Irvine for a week-long residential college experience, bringing our total to more than 1,600 students served since the program began. Participants lived in the dorms alongside student RAs, attended daily financial literacy instruction and visited leading financial and business firms across Orange County to see career pathways firsthand.

The week culminated in students presenting their LIFEplan projects to our partner organizations, with industry volunteers coaching each team through practice rounds and final presentations.

Thank you to our funders, Pacific Life Foundation and Capital Group, for making this work possible.
