We’d like to thank everyone for working with us to make this the most successful Lifeguard we’ve had! We raised $8,300 for the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention () - nearly TWICE as much as last year.
Congratulations to Team Christina Θ for raising the most money and winning the weeklong competition!
Congratulations also to the runner ups:
2nd -
3rd -
(See all final standings and points on the FIJI Lifeguard Facebook event page)
We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s contributions. In the end, the competition was only the means to our ultimate goal of supporting a cause that is close to a lot of our members’ hearts.
College campuses like UC Irvine aren’t without students who are experiencing signs of depression that may eventually lead to su***de. Major depression affects more than 16 million Americans a year. We encourage everyone to educate themselves on the warning signs of depressions and other common conditions that may lead to su***de at https://afsp.org/about-su***de/
More importantly, there are many resources available:
The UCI Counseling Center is free for students: https://counseling.uci.edu/services/appointments.html
Orange County Psychological Association offers free or reduced rates for therapy sessions: http://www.ocpapsych.org/?page=FreeandReducedFee
National Su***de Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255
You can also text the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741
Once again, thank you all. We look forward to beating more records with everyone next year.
