1) Research Technician at Georgia Tech University / Atlanta GA. Job Description: The Structured Information for Precision Neuroengineering (SIPLab) at the Georgia Institute of Technology is hiring a research technician with a background in human neuroscience to work with Drs. Christopher Rozell and Sankar Alagapan. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or related areas and experience in conducting human subject studies with neural data acquisition (e.g., EEG, MEG, intracranial EEG, fMRI). Experience in working with patient populations will be considered a plus. The research technician will contribute to ongoing efforts in studying brain-body relationships underlying effortful behavior in healthy individuals, individuals with depression, and individuals undergoing intracranial monitoring for epilepsy surgery planning. The responsibilities will include: Recruitment of participants for studies, including coordinating with collaborators; conducting screenings for recruitment of study participants, performing interviews and questionnaires; maintaining study documentation, including IRB protocols, consent forms, and questionnaires; coordinating study visits with other study investigators; and assisting data collection. The lab is committed to the professional development of the members, making this opportunity a valuable preparation for people who are interested in applying for grad/medical school. Excellent (written and oral) communication skills in English are required. The start date is flexible but ideally would be as soon as possible. The position is initially for 12 months with the possibility of renewal. Compensation will be commensurate with relevant experience. Georgia Tech has competitive benefits (including comprehensive medical insurance) and is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates should send a CV, expected date of availability, and the contact information for up to three references to Drs. Rozell ([email protected]) and Alagapan ([email protected]) with the subject line "SIPLab research tech application" AND apply at this link: https://tinyurl.com/siplab-researchtech-2026 . Applications are currently being reviewed and will continue until the position is filled.

2) Full-Time Lab Coordinator at the University of Michigan / Ann Arbor MI. Link: https://careers.umich.edu/job_detail/277583/lab-coordinator . Job Summary: The Psychopathology, Population Health, and Genetics (PPG) lab, directed by Dr. Leah Richmond-Rakerd, and the Stigma, Psychopathology, and Assessment (SPLAT) lab, directed by Dr. Craig Rodriguez-Seijas, are searching for a Full-Time Lab Coordinator (Research Technician Associate). The position will be distributed across labs, with 50% time toward duties in the PPG lab and 50% time toward duties in the SPLAT lab. Projects in the PPG lab examine the development and outcomes of problems in self-regulation, including disinhibitory disorders, su***de and self-harm, and related mental-health conditions. Current research projects center on associations of self-regulation difficulties with later-life physical health and processes of aging. The lab's projects involve data from population-based administrative registers, longitudinal studies, and genetically-informative samples (e.g., studies of twins). The lab collaborates with researchers in New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, and elsewhere. For more information about the lab, visit: https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/richmond-rakerd-lab/. Projects in the SPLAT lab are focused on understanding the elevated prevalence of borderline personality disorder, and related psychopathology, among sexual and gender minority populations. Specifically, the lab is currently in the process of developing a new mixed-methods study aimed at understanding LGBTQ+ individuals' experiences with the diagnosis and subsequent treatment. The incoming lab coordinator will work with Dr. Rodriguez-Seijas and other lab members to plan and execute the study. For more information about the lab, visit: https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/splat-lab/splat/ . This position is ideal for those interested in pursuing graduate training in clinical psychology, developmental psychology, or public health. A very successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to the writing of empirical papers. Dr. Richmond-Rakerd's and Dr. Rodriguez-Seijas's labs both involve a focus on health disparities and externalizing outcomes. Dr. Richmond-Rakerd's lab has ongoing projects concerning links between mental and physical health, and Dr. Rodriguez-Seijas's lab has ongoing projects focused on understanding various models of psychopathology (e.g., the HiTOP model, the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders [AMPD]) and how they interface with psychosocial stressors experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals. Thus, there are a variety of areas of research focus for applicants to consider.

New research suggests that creativity really can boost well-being, but the story may be more complicated than we think. 🎨✨

In a study where adults completed daily surveys for nearly two weeks, people tended to feel more engaged, purposeful, and accomplished on days when they were more creative. Interestingly, for people who work professionally in creative fields, highly creative days were sometimes followed by more negative emotions the next morning, which researchers call a “creative hangover.”

It’s a fascinating reminder that creativity can be both energizing and emotionally demanding, especially when it’s tied to work, deadlines, and high expectations.

JOB OPENING! The Collective Lab at San Diego State University, directed by Dr. Sylvanna Vargas, is a community-engaged mental health research lab focused on understanding and reducing disparities in depression, su***de risk, and help-seeking among underserved youth. Using intersectional and sociocultural frameworks, the lab examines how structural inequities, discrimination, social relationships, and cultural context shape mental health outcomes, particularly among racial/ethnic minority and sexual minority populations. The lab conducts interdisciplinary, mixed-methods and implementation-focused research to adapt and expand evidence-based interventions within real-world service settings that reach underserved youth.

Current research includes projects focused on youth su***de prevention, mental health support and crisis helplines, peer and naturalistic social support, school-based mental health, and technology-supported implementation strategies.

The lab is currently composed of PhD, Masters, post baccalaureate, and undergraduate trainees. The primary responsibility of the Research Coordinator will be to serve as Lab Manager and coordinate activities for an NIMH-funded K23 project examining teen-to-teen mental health crisis and support helplines, while also supporting broader lab operations and ongoing research initiatives.

Congratulations to former UCI Psychological Science undergraduate student - and my former Psych Fundamentals C Peer Tutor - Alice Li, who was recently admitted to the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. programs at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and Syracuse University! She has accepted the offer at Syracuse University, and she will begin that program in Fall 2026.

Alice has the following advice for students/alumni who are thinking about applying to Clinical Psychology Ph.D. programs: "From my experience, fit is really important. I would encourage people to spend time figuring out what research areas and questions they genuinely care about and would love to keep digging into. Once you find something you're passionate about and see a program or mentor that feels like a good fit, don’t be too intimidated to give it a try! Applying to Clinical programs (especially directly from undergrad) can feel daunting, but it is possible, and having that genuine interest and fit can really help guide the process."

So proud of you, Alice!

NEW PODCAST EPISODE! Are you wondering what’s too personal to include in your personal statement for a clinical psychology PhD program? Are you curious how much the stipends are for these programs?

In this week’s episode of The Psychology Student, UCI Psychology Post-Bacc alum ('25) Blen Asres is talking to Ghazal Naderi about the nuances of funding in clinical psychology PhD programs, writing a compelling personal statement for these programs, and navigating different challenges in graduate school.

Ghazal completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Tehran and her postbacc in the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Psychology at University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine). She is currently a first year, and soon to be second year, in the Clinical Psychology PhD program at University of California, Irvine. Her mentor is Dr. Alyson Zalta of the Trauma and Resilience lab where she is exploring the impact of trauma on women’s health across the lifespan, particularly how intergenerational trauma impacts outcomes for both mothers and their children. Ghazal is also interested in exploring how individual, cultural, and contextual differences may influence the effectiveness of interventions for post-traumatic stress disorder.
