An edition of a papyrus, recently discovered in a library of Cairo, containing verses of Empedocles has been published. This is exciting!

A papyrus fragment reveals thirty previously unknown verses by the Greek philosopher, allowing us for the first time to read a lost section of the Physica, his great poem on nature.

Bonam Fortunam to several current and former students who will be presenting papers at the Classical Association of the Middle West and South Conference in Mobile, Alabama, this coming weekend: Laird Cantrell (MA '23, now at Univ of Iowa) on Euripides' Iphigenia at Aulis, Owen Embree (BA '25 now at Wash U at StL) on Polybius and Livy, Anand Mangal (MA '25, now at Indiana Univ) on the Ars Amatoria, and Kate Wilken, (MA '26) on Horace's Epode 3.

I am pleased to announce that the University of Dallas won the 2025-2026 CPLG Outstanding Promotional Activity Award from CAMWS for its Antiquity Day event in November. The Committee for the Promotion of Greek and Latin gave us a grant to help defray costs; ticket sales, donated goods and the generous donation from Mr. Wiley so many years ago - which our alumni have contributed to over the years - THANK YOU! - also helped fund the day.
