Composting is one of the single greatest actions a community can take to combat climate change, and IV Compost Collective needs your support! 🫶

As many have noticed, food prices are skyrocketing, produce quality is declining, and a large portion of the world's soil is being threatened by desertification due to unsustainable farming practices like the use of synthetic fertilizers.

Compost/ing is a foolproof way to reduce our communities' waste, produce priceless nutrient rich organic fertilizer with said “waste”, and amend our local soil resulting in bountiful and healthy harvests right here in our community gardens!

Come join us the first Monday of each month anytime between 2-5pm at St. Michael's Church, and become a part of our movement to reconnect with our soil, food, and each other!

Thanks to you all, we collected 1440 total food items from Isla Vista residents, to be donated back to Isla Vista residents in need! We are so grateful for the turn out and the positive impact we have all made on food waste associated with move out week 😎🥰🥫🍽

Food on Wheels is a program launched by IVCC to address other kinds of food waste and food insecurity. The beauty of this program is its closed-loop nature: that students can donate food so other students can have access to food. Even better, Food on Wheels dramatically reduces food waste, as many donated goods would have stayed on pantry shelves until past-expired. At the end of the academic quarter, when many students leave their houses in IV for the break, plenty of food is left behind–a fact that demands IVCC’s help.
All donations went to the UCSB AS Food Bank and Isla Vista Food not Bombs :) Check those food banks out for some goodies from your neighbors!

Who’s ready for another beautiful Isla Vista summer 😎🌊🌞

We are excited to announce we we are welcoming more sign ups for the upcoming year (Summer 2022 - Spring 2023)

By signing up for our service (starting June 20th), your household will receive a free bucket (for discarding your food scraps) which will be picked up weekly by one of our world-renwoened Dirtriders! Your Dirtrider will then bike your food scraps to a community compost pile in Isla Vista where they will dump the buckets and mix in some browns (carbon rich material like dead leaves). They’ll be back to turn the pile later!

Isla Vista Compost Collective (IVCC) is hosting our quarterly food drive event, Food on Wheels (FOW), the weekend of May 28-29th, 2022!

FOW is a two day event where the IVCC team and volunteers collect unopened non perishable food donations from Isla Vista residents. On Saturday, May 28th, Isla Vista residents may sign up using the form below to have their donations picked up from their doorstep between 10am-3pm. On Sunday, May 29th, the IVCC team and volunteers will be knocking on doors across Del Playa and Sabado Tarde asking for non perishable food donations. We donate this food to various local food banks such as Food Not Bombs and UCSB AS Food Bank. The beauty of this event is its closed-loop nature: that students can donate food so other students can have access to food.

IVCC will be picking up your unopened non-perishable food donations from 10am-3pm, Saturday, May 28th. Please have your donations on your porch by 10am on this day. Fill out the Saturday pickup form in our bio to sign up!

If you or your organization would like to volunteer with IVCC on Sunday, May 28th, walking around Isla Vista and collecting and/or sorting through donations, fill out the Sunday FOW volunteer sign up form in our bio!
