A.M. Rohan Amin '29 (CALS/Global Development, Corning, N.Y.) already making news

The Lurie Cup means many things to Rohan Amin ’29 (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University): a celebration of soccer, a chance to bring his community together and a way to support the pediatric hospital that saved his life.

Amin’s annual indoor soccer tournament has raised a total of around $30,000 over the last four years to support the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. The most recent Lurie Cup on Dec. 27 in his hometown of Corning, New York, was his largest event to date.

In 2025, the event netted $5,610 for Lurie Children’s Hospital, and a matching program raised the value of the donation to $11,220. Additionally, $1,870 went to the event’s venue, the Corning YMCA. The tournament also drew new friends from Cornell, who traveled from around the state to participate.

Amin – who was successfully treated for a rare disorder at the hospital as a toddler – conceived the tournament to fulfill a “personal project” assignment during his sophomore year at Corning-Painted Post High School. He has kept it going since, and he planned the 2025 event while navigating finals as a global development major in the Cornell CALS Ashley School of Global Development and the Environment.

“I’m most proud of this year because of that difficulty,” he said. “When I got home for winter break, instead of taking a rest and just spreading out on my bed, I really started to get to work.”

A historic $55 million gift from Steve Ashley ’62 MBA ’64 O-913, the largest in history, will establish the Ashley School of Global Development and the Environment.

Bro. Ashley has been profoundly generous both to Cornell and to Omicron Zeta with both time and treasure, serving 16 years on the university Board of Trustees, as co-chair of the Far Above capital campaign, and 55 years on the Cornell Council. In 2016 he became the third brother to receive the Frank Rhodes Exemplary Alumni Service Award, Cornell’s highest honor for alumni volunteers.

An AgEc major, he served as steward, alumni chair, and graduate advisor in the house, going on to serve two decades as an alumni director and treasurer of ISWZA. He most recently was honorary chair of our Centennial Campaign as well as its keystone donor; the signature space of our $2.8 million renovation project, the Ashley Reading Room, was named in his honor.

Bro. Ashley is chairman and CEO of The Ashley Companies, a Rochester, N.Y.-based firm that specializes in property management, brokerage, financing and real estate investment.

A thanks to 2LT H. Brenner Beard '24 O-2022, currently serving as an intelligence officer in the United States Air Force.

One of our most active brothers in the house and on campus, Brenner was cadet squadron commander of Cornell's AFROTC and an Arnold Air Society inductee, a columnist, and an Outdoor Odyssey guide, but was probably most celebrated as officer and competitor. This spring, he competed in Wisconsin, raising over $4,000 for Team Red White & Blue, a veteran-founded organization which enriches veterans' lives to combat the mental and physical scars of military service.

Mini reunion in the Adirondacks. Staz, Keegs, Mef, and T. Scot Brown (Tisbee) and spouses. Note that we are getting some camera distortion in the boat picture. Scot and Liss are still as slender as they were in 1981. More or less.
