Reading Spanish realist novels, Professor Julia Chang noticed a pattern—and wrote a book: "Their plots were all structured around beautiful and (initially) chaste women who bore the responsibility of their families’ bloodlines.”

Read this wonderful story by CAS and then head to Olin for Chats in the Stacks at 4 p.m. today to hear about Dr. Chang's new book!

In her new book, Julia Chang examines the presence of blood and its deeper literary and cultural meaning in novels by three Spanish authors.

Our second to last film starts tomorrow! Please register to watch “Fly so Far” from El Salvador. Link in the bio. This film is about the extreme criminalization of abortion in this Central American country. Women that have had a miscarriage end up being accused of homicide and getting sentenced to 30 years in prison. Make sure not to miss it. It’s a really powerful film. 🇸🇻
