Since the inception of our programs, Public Policy and Administration has continually strived to provide the highest level of academic and practitioner training for students preparing for significant professional and managerial positions in a variety of settings. The MPPA degree has been offered at Jackson State University since the fall of 1975 and has been accredited since 1978 by the National A

ssociation of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration for the degree of Master of Public Administration (MPA). The Program is designed to equip students with the skills of contemporary management that provide for efficient and effective practitioners, primarily in the areas of public, non-profit, and quasi-public organizations. Program in Public Administration has been offered since the 1992 academic year. It is designed to have a management and policy focus while centered on urban management. It's time to recruit our next leaders! Applications for our next group of HWMLI Summer Interns & Mentees starts today. The HWMLI Summer Interns consist of college students in alignment with the One Voice mission to ensure historically silenced communities have representation and influence in spaces of power.

We encourage all students to apply. The interns selected are not limited to the listed requests, but there is a high demand this summer for college students who:

Are bilingual
Have graphic design experience
Are familiar with and accustomed to data analytics and research dealing with policy work

We’ll also be recruiting mentees, high school students from grades 9-12, live within a 50-mile radius, and are able to participate virtually and in person. They will be collaborating with the college interns to help support and guide them along.

MPPA Capstone Presentation for Spring 2026

The MPPA Capstone presentation for Spring 2026 took place in Room 210, downtown campus, on April 15, 2026. Three students participated in the capstone class this semester and presented their research findings. The students and their topics are as follows:

-Temma Davis-Howard- "When policy hurts and heals: Rethinking childcare access in Mississippi."
-Roosevelt Hawkins, Jr. -"Truth and governance: How shifts in federal farm policy affect American farmers' sustainability."
-Derek Wayne Davis - "Mississippi as the missing link echoing the Longshore union strike of 2024."

The three students will participate in the JSU Graduate Commencement and receive their MPPA degrees at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center on the JSU main campus on May 1, 2026.

The JSU PPAD faculty members commend the students for their hard work and outstanding research efforts!

The MPPA Capstone class serves as a replacement for the comprehensive exam required for the Master's degree. Throughout the semester, students review what they have learned in the program, conduct research on self-selected topics in an integrated manner, and submit a research paper along with an open presentation. The MPPA Capstone class was introduced in the Spring of 2023.

There was a student research symposium in which graduate students presented their research in oral and poster formats on April 10, 2026.

Ms. Debra Braddock (PhD student; 'Degrees, Debt, and Disconnection: Rethinking the Future Workforce in Mississippi'), Mr. George Welch (PhD student; 'Executive Leadership and Fiscal Reform in Mississippi; 'Equity, Governance, and the Elimination of the State Income Tax'), and Mr. Desmond Washington (MPPA; 'The Legacy Continues: Tracing the Politics of Education and Power in America) from the Dept. of Public Policy & Administration (PPAD) attended the event and shared their research results with other participating students and faculty. JOB SUMMARY

As an Investigative Specialist (IS) you will provide investigative support by conducting physical surveillance related to the Foreign Counterintelligence and Counterterrorism functions of the FBI.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is looking for Investigative Specialists for positions nationwide. All applicants interested in this position, must preference Quantico-Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) as their preferred location in order to be considered. All Investigative Specialist positions are managed by CIRG.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Must be a US Citizen.
All Investigative Specialist must satisfactorily complete a two-year probationary period, which begins the effective date of the reassignment to the Investigative Specialist position.
Must be available for assignments to any of the FBI's 55 Field Offices.
All Investigative Specialist must sign a two-year service agreement agreeing to stay in the SSG Program and their office of assignment location for a period of two years. This agreement is effective from the date of the Investigative Specialist's graduation from the Basic Surveillance Course.
Must be willing and able to sign a Mobility Agreement to accept a relocation to other geographical areas based on the needs of the Bureau.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Some travel may be required.
Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
The following travel, working conditions and physical demands are MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS for this position:

Must be willing to work inside a vehicle for long periods of time and drive in different environments to include urban, rural, suburban, etc.
Must be willing and able to accept assignments indoors, outdoors, and in all types of weather conditions and situations.
Must be available and willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, odd hours, and extended shifts as necessary.
Must be able to travel for up to 30 consecutive days with short notice.
Selectees must successfully complete a NINE WEEK training class. This includes successful completion of a Tactical Emergency Vehicle Operations Center (TEVOC) driving course. Failure to successfully complete this course may result in a dismissal, demotion and/or placement into another professional staff support position within ANY field office contingent upon the availability of vacancies.

Work requires prolonged periods of standing, sitting in small/confined areas, walking, crawling, climbing, and running over rough or uneven surfaces, as well as operating vehicles under demanding road and traffic conditions.
Work is performed under all types of weather conditions.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Conducts specialized field operations in support of the FBI's highest priority and most sensitive national security investigations nationwide.
Researches available intelligence sources to ensure factual relevance and accuracy of targeted subject(s), location(s), and environment(s).
Maintain visual contact with subjects of investigative interest without detection while actively communicating, documenting, and reacting to the surrounding environment.
Collects physical, photographic, and forensic evidence in accordance with the FBI policies.
Compile and analyzes all raw intelligence gathered by an FBI surveillance team into a physical surveillance log.

Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.

GS-9: Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
